RWSN Newsletter March 2010

As 2010 gets well under way, we once again welcome you to our quarterly newsletter. In this edition, there is a particular focus on the Cost-Effective Boreholes flagship, which has just released a model for the calculation of water well drilling costs. This should assist drilling enterprises to better consider their actual costs, and also enable clients to have a more comprehensive understanding of the numerous cost components involved.

We also provide updates with respect to developing national protocols for cost-effective borehole drilling in Burkina Faso and Sudan. Work to professionalise manual drilling is progressing steadily, with case studies from Niger and Chad just published. You may also wish view the extensive set of demonstration videos on hand drilling and other technologies that EMAS (in Bolivia) have just put onto the internet.

In Uganda in April 2010 there will be a symposium on Sustainable Service Delivery of Rural Water Supplies, and you may also be interested to read about the recent Video Conference on Self Supply, which enabled an extremely lively discussion by 31 participants from 9 countries.

Of particular interest is the call for case studies on rural water supply by the Water and Sanitation Programme of the World Bank (WSP). Do you have experiences to share? See also the information regarding the themes for the 2010 issues of Waterlines. You may wish to consider writing for this practitioner and professional focused journal. We would really like to see the RWSN membership more actively sharing their experiences with others.
